PPC® Plastic Powder Coating - Innovative surface technology on plastics

An example: How can a non-conductive plastic lever be coated and at the same time permanently protected against extremely heavy wear?

The plastic lever is part of a ski binding and has to stand up to extreme loads. It has to be highly scratch, abrasion, and impact resistant even under extreme climatic conditions, with temperatures anywhere between + 40°C and -40°C. The required colour was metallic silver. Conventional technology was inadequate here because the plastic lever, being electrically non-conductive, did not allow a powder layer to be built up. Working in collaboration with Hillebrand the customer looked for alternative ways of carrying out his innovative project. Using the new Hillebrand PPC technique, it proved possible not only to create the powder coating but also to anchor it perfectly to the plastic substrate.

PPCs (Plastic Powder Coatings) are multi-coloured protective layers on plastics with a high scratch resistance and good sliding qualities.

Powder coating capable of meeting extreme technical demands on electrically non-conductive plastics can only be applied reliably at Hillebrand by means of a new technique that has been developed inhouse. Anchoring substrate and coating powder together even permits a high level of mechanical abrasion in a climate that is subject to extreme fluctuations.

Whenever a long service life and colour brilliance are required, PPC is always a good solution.
